The centre of the Star has a round painted enamel plaque of St Michael holding a sword, trampling on Satan, encircled by the motto 'AUSPICIUM MELIORUS AEVI' in chased gold letters on blue enamel between chased gold borders, all on red enamel cross of St George. This device rests on a Star composed of seven rays of silver, facetted and pierced, with pierced and facetted rays of gold between each of them.
The Duke of Connaught received the G.C.M.G in 1870.Provenance
