Painted in 1851 according to the Enamels inventory, and taken from Guglielmo Faija's miniature (420796; Royal Collection) of the same date, based on a miniature by Moritz Michael Daffinger (1790-1849) of c.1835.
Maria Antonia, Duchess Ferdinand of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, daughter and heiress of Francis Joseph, Prince of Kohary, and Countess Antonie of Waldstein-Wartenberg, married, in 1815, Ferdinand, Prince of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld, who later used the title Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. Known to Queen Victoria as 'Aunt Tony', she was remembered as 'quite lovely' by Queen Victoria's half-sister, Princess Feodora of Hohenlohe-Langenburg, who met her just after her marriage (RA VIC/Y 43/40).Provenance
