Christian VII, King of Denmark (1749 – 1808), son of Frederick V, King of Denmark, and of Princess Louisa, youngest daughter of George II, succeeded as King of Denmark in 1766. He married in 1766 Princess Caroline Matilda, sister of King George III. He descended into insanity, which prompted a coup and the declaration of a regency from 1784 until his death in 1808).
