-
This miniature is related to a full-length portrait formerly at Schloss Marienburg, but the portrait may be dependent on the miniature.
Benedicta Henrietta was the youngest daugher of Edward of Simmern, a brother of the Electress Sophia of Hanover. She married, in 1668, John Frederick, Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg, thus becoming Sophia's sister-in-law as well as her niece. Although she was closer than Sophia in succession to the English Crown, her father and her husband were Catholics and she bore no sons.
Inscribed on the gessoed back in ink: No 32 Benedicte Henriette Duchesse de Broun: et de Luneb: née Princes [...] Palatine. -
