Although the inscription on the frame gives this miniature to Henry Charles Heath after a photograph by Carl Seeger, the technique does not resemble Heath's, and the initials point to a work by David Mossman. The source is a photograph by Carl Seeger of Darmstadt showing Prince Louis of Hesse half-length, in Garter robes (RCIN 2941250).
Signed in white paint along the left-hand edge: DM.Provenance
First recorded in the Royal Collection during the reign of Queen Victoria
