This miniature had been identified since the nineteenth-century as Katherine Howard, Lady d'Aubigny (d. 1650), daughter of Theophilus, 2nd Earl of Suffolk. However, the miniature is based on a portrait type by Van Dyck, known from a version at Blickling Hall which was identified as Lady Tufton in the eighteenth century and is inscribed as a portrait of her. It is characteristic of the copies in miniature which des Granges produced after large-scale oil prototypes throughout the 1630s. Margaret, third daughter and co-heir of Thomas, 2nd Lord Wotton, married, as his first wife, Sir John Tufton, Signed on the right in gold: 'D D.G:'
