Shepherds with their Flocks in a Mountainous Landscape c.1680-1720
Oil on canvas | 90.4 x 120.8 cm (support, canvas/panel/stretcher external) | RCIN 404778
-
This is one of a set of four landscapes (see CWLF 118, 404776, CWLF 119, 404777, CWLF 120, 404775); one is a night scene (CWLF 120, 404775), which might suggest that they represent four times of day, though if so the other times are difficult to distinguish. They would appear to be by a follower of Teniers.
Provenance
Acquired in Spain by Sir Daniel Arthur; in the collection of George Bagnall from who purchased by Frederick Prince of Wales in 1747; recorded hanging at Leicester House in 1749
