This portrait possibly depicts Frederick III of Saxe-Gotha, the eldest son of Frederick II of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg and Magdalena Augusta, Princess of Anhalt-Zerbst. In 1729 he married Luise Dorothea of Saxe-Meiningen. His youngest sister, Augusta, became Princess of Wales on her marriage to Frederick, Prince of Wales. He wears blue velvet and ermine robes over a cuirass and uniform with embroidered cuffs with a powdered wig.
