The richly gilt chinoiserie-type scenes hark back to the manufactory’s earlier wares of the Vincennes era. The asymmetrical panels and serpentine scrolls, surrounded by exotic birds, palms, fountains and a peacock teasing a serpent, create an imaginative and harmonious decoration typical of the earlier Louis XV style, evocative of the designs of painter Jacques de Lajoue (1687-1761).
