A three-colour gold and silver snuff box, cast and chased with gold and silver flowers and foliate scrolls on a matted ground. Inset with a miniature of George IV (1762-1830) when Prince Regent.
The miniature bust-length, in Field Marshal's uniform with the neck badge of the Order of the Golden Fleece and the stars of the Orders of the Garter, the St Esprit and the Black Eagle; blue eyes, brown hair. A bust-length miniature copy of Sir Thomas Lawrence's portrait of the Prince Regent of c.1814. A comparison with another signed version by Henry Bone (3971; Royal Collection) confirms this is also a work by Henry Bone rather than by his son Henry Pierce Bone.
Provenance
Originally presented by George IV to his Private Secretary, Lord Bloomfield. Presented by Mrs Minna Schoenbrunn Cassel to King Edward VII (1907)
