Sword or talwar with curved steel blade with fuller on each side, incised with maker's name 'Muhammad Lazi'; gold painted iron hilt with quillons with narrow knuckle guard, set on each side with ruby; flat circular pommel with curved spike; red velvet-covered wooden scabbard with silver gilt mounts.
Provenance
Presented to King Edward VII, when Prince of Wales, during his tour of India in 1875-76. Arms and aArmour at Sandringham House records that the sword was presented by the 'Raja of Vizagapatam' - likely to be Ramchandra Deo III, Maharaja of Jaypore - a city in the district of Vizagapatam.
