Pair of gilt-bronze mounted malachite vases and columns, each vase with a waisted neck and ovoid body mounted with satyr handles, dressed with vines, on turned socles, square bases and plinths with foliate borders. The cylindrical columns with gilt-bronze laurel wreath bases and square plinths.
Provenance
Acquired by George IV, c. 1814.
According to Jutsham, 'bought at the Princess of Wales' Sale- they have been delivered some time since'. If the provenance given is correct, they probably came from the sale of furniture etc. at the Princess's house in Connaught Place,... conducted by Robins prior to November 1814. Restored at a cost of 4 guineas by Charles Brandt, 5 July 1819. Sent to Morel and Seddon 10 January 1828 from the Pediment Stores, Carlton House c.2 July 1828. -
