An oval blue jasperware plaque in blue dip in upright giltwood frame with pitted spandrels, the plaque with white low relief decoration of Her Majesty The Queen facing left, wearing the Diamond Diadem, a string of pearls, and a loose robe around her shoulders. The profile replicates Arnold Machin's effigy for the British definitive stamp introduced in 1967. It is thought to be the most reproduced image ever; over 320 billion stamps have been issued with this image and it has never been revised.
Provenance
Presented to Queen Elizabeth II by Postmaster-General Edward Short following a Privy Council meeting at Sandringham House, 26 January 1968.
