A white linen cambric Colobium Sindonis (tunic) - a simple white linen dress with no sleeves, wide arm openings and a plain collar closing with a single button, intended to represent a priests' alb.
Provenance
Made for the Coronation of King George V at Westminster Abbey, 22 June 1911.
Used at the Coronation of King George VI at Westminster Abbey, 12 May 1937 following alterations by Wilkinsons, the extent of which are not clear.
Used at the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II at Westminster Abbey, 2 June 1953, and bears an Ede and Ravenscroft label presumed to be from this time.
Used at the Coronation of King Charles III at Westminster Abbey, 6 May 2023.
Placed around the sovereign whilst seated under the Canopy in St. Edward's Chair during the Anointing. -
