An English table clock of ebonised wood with a brass basket top and scroll handle; cherub spandrels in gilt metal, on metal ball and claw feet. The face with gilt spandrels, a silvered chapter ring with the 12 hours represented by Roman numerals and 5 minute intervals in arabic numbers and a date aperture; gilt pierced hands. The eight day striking mechanism has a fusee movement and a verge escapement. John Ebsworth was working in London in the last quarter of the seventeenth century. He was appointed Master of the Clockmakers' Company in 1697 and made a number of fine longcase, bracket and lantern clocks.
