Photograph of Princess Elizabeth of York seated by a window on a window ledge. She faces three-quarter right and wears a white dress and a bead necklace. Mounted.
This portrait was taken when the Princess was fourteen months old. It marks the end of a six-month separation from her parents, the Duke and Duchess of York, who had departed in January 1927 on an official tour of Australia to open Parliament in the new federal capital, Canberra. When the royal party returned to London at the end of June, they were laden with gifts for Princess Elizabeth, many presented by the people of Australia and New Zealand.
