Photogravure of Gwendolen Mary Fitzalan-Howard (née Constable-Maxwell), Duchess of Norfolk with her children, Lady Rachael Howard and Bernard Marmaduke Fitzalan-Howard, then the Earl of Arundel and Surrey. The family are posed around a seat in this full length, group portrait, against a decorative backdrop featuring a natural scene. The Duchess of Norfolk holds her son on her lap, her eyes downcast. Lady Rachael Howard stands, her hand placed in her brother's lap. Both children look towards the camera. The Duchess of Norfolk wears a full length black dress with a white lace collar, and a large dark coloured hat decorated with ostrich feathers. The children both wear white gowns edged with lace. "Speaight", the photographer's signature, features in the bottom left hand corner.
In the accompanying caption, the Duchess of Norfolk is described as "deeply interested in social questions" and "very fond of travelling."Provenance
