Photogravure of Nina Mary Benita Douglas-Hamilton (née Poore), Duchess of Hamilton. In this full length portrait, the Duchess of Hamilton stands in profile, her face turned slightly towards the camera. She holds a fan in her right hand, and wears an elaborate satin dress with an extended train, the bodice decorated with fringing. Her eyes are downcast, and she appears to be smiling. A black terrier rests at her feet. A backdrop featuring Roman inspired columns and a large curtain is just visible in the background. "Speaight" is signed and underlined in the bottom left hand corner.
In the accompanying caption, the Duchess of Hamilton is noted as "much interested in philanthropic and charitable work, and is establishing Institutes for miners in Lanarkshire. She is a lover of animals, and has a kennel of Labrador Retrievers with which she has won many Field Trial Contests."Provenance
