Photograph of the Crimson Drawing Room, Semi-State Apartments, dominated by the ornate gilded ceiling and large bow window. The floor is covered in various carpets laid over the original parquet wooden floor. It contains many pieces of furniture, including matching settees and chairs (they are covered in the same pattern as the wall hangings, which was the original 1828 striped silk velvet material), that were part of a large set commissioned by George IV from Morel and Seddon; in the foreground is a fine circular table by Morel and Seddon (RCIN 31305) and a Broadwood rosewood grand piano in the window (possibly RCIN 31302); plus a Russian porphyry vase, presented to Queen Victoria by Tsar Alexander in 1874 (RCIN 31653).
On the walls are portraits of the Prince of Wales, later Edward VII and Alexandra, Princess of Wales by Winterhalter (RCIN 402351 and 402352) and a portrait of Edward, Duke of Kent, Queen Victoria's father by Faure (RCIN 405184).Provenance
