A page of five large and nine small photographs from Princess Victoria's album, of different events, people and dates.
(a) is a group photograph taken by a lake at Gatchina, featuring Grand Duchess Olga (1882-1960) with a camera, possibly Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna (1847-1928) with her back turned, and possibly Grand Duchess Xenia (1875-1960) and her husband Grand Duke Alexander Mikhailovich (1866-1933).
(b) an out-of-focus photograph taken at La Turbie with Prince George (1871-99), sitting in wicker chair, Princes Victoria (1868-1935), Princess Maud (1869-1938), Empress Maria Feodorovna and her sister Princess Alexandra (1844-1925), May1896.
(c) group photograph of member of the Russian Imperial family at Gatchina, including Tsar Nicholas II, Empress Alexandra Feodorovna, Grand Duchess Olga, Grand Duchess Xenia, Grand Duke Alexander Mikhailovich and Grand Duke Mikhail.
(d) Group of Danish, Russian and English royal cousins on their bicycles at Lynby, 1896: Prince George of Denmark, Prince Valdemar, Princess Victoria, Prince George and Prince Christian, later King Christian X.
(e) Group photograph taken in a garden at Woodlands, June 1896, Standing: Lord Howe; Princess Maud of Wales; Hon. Harry Stonor; Princess Victoria of Wales; Colonel Oliphant; Marquis of Ripon; Commander Seymour Fortescue; Earl of Gosford; Jean de Reszke. Seated: Lord Colebroke; Lord Curzon; Countess of Gosford; Miss Emilie Yznaga (sister of Consuelo, Duchess of Manchester); Alexandra, Princess of Wales; Lady Gladwys De Grey, Marchioness of Ripon; Eduoard de Reszke, holding a croquet mallet. The royal sisters are wearing virtually identical clothes, which they enjoyed doing, before Princess Maud's marriage to Prince Charles of Denmark, later King Haakon VII of Norway. The occasion seems to have been a tea party with croquet, and of a musical flavour, with the presence of two famous Polish operatic singers and the well-known patroness of Opera, Lady De Grey. -
