Carte-de-visite portrait of Mary 'Patsy' Fitzpatrick, later Mrs Cornwallis West, standing behind a painted balustraded wall upon which she rests her arm. Her hair is loosely tied back under a hat.
Patsy Cornwallis-West had a relationship with Prince Albert Edward, later Edward VII in about 1872, when she was 16, before she was married to William Cornwallis-West. Their eldest daughter was Daisy (b.1873) who became Princess of Pless; another daughter, Constance (b.1876) married Hugh Grosvenor, 2nd Duke of Westminster and one of the wealthiest men in the world at the that time. Cornwallis-West's son, George (b.1874), was the second husband of Lady Randolph Churchill, mother of Winston Churchill. -
