  • Carte-de-visite half length photograph of Prince Friedrich Wilhelm II of Prussia, in a vignette format. The subject is shown in three quarter view, facing towards the right of the image. His dark hair is arranged in a side parting and he is clean shaven. He is wearing a white shirt with a turn down collar, a dark coloured silk cravat and a mid-coloured double-breasted tweed jacket. He holds his arms crossed in front of his body, although his left arm is shrouded in shadow. This may have been to conceal his withered left arm (resulting from a traumatic breech birth) which was paralysed and six inches shorter than his right arm.

Friedrich was the eldest son of King Frederick William III of Prussia and Princess Victoria. In 1881 Wilhelm married Princess Augusta Victoria of Schleswig-Holstein and the couple had seven children.  In 1922 Wilhelm, widowed the previous year, remarried Princess Hermine Reuss of Greiz.
