  • Carte-de-visite head and shoulders photograph of Princess Marie of Prussia, in a vignette format. The subject is shown in three quarter view, facing towards the left of the image, with her face shown in profile. Her hair is arranged in a chignon and she is wearing a pendant around her neck. She is wearing a gown whose bodice is made from silk patterned with horizontal stripes and decorated with a double row of buttons. The yoke and sleeves of the dress are made from a contrasting mid-coloured silk.

    Marie was the daughter of Prince Frederick Charles of Prussia and Princess Maria Anna of Anhalt-Dessau. In 1878 she married Prince Henry of Orange-Nassau, who died five months later from measles. The couple had no children. In 1885 Marie remarried, becoming the wife of Prince Albert of Saxe-Altenburg and the couple had two children.
