Carte-de-visite head and shoulders photograph of Princess Marie of Prussia, in a vignette format. The subject is photographed in profile, facing towards the right of the image, with her head shown in three quarter view. Her hair is braided and arranged in a chignon and she is wearing drop earrings. She is wearing a white bodice with a high necked, pleated collar tied with a black pleated ribbon which is pinned with a brooch. Beneath this she is wearing a mid-coloured chemise.
Marie was the only surviving child of Duke Ernest I of Saxe-Altenburg and Princess Agnes of Anhalt-Dessau, as her younger brother George died as an infant. In 1873 Marie married Prince Albert of Prussia and the couple had three sons.Provenance
