  • Carte-de-visite three quarter length photograph of Prince Alfonso Carlos of Bourbon, Duke of San Jaime. The subject is shown standing in three quarter view, facing towards the left of the image, with his head turned towards the viewer. In the background there is a trompe l'oeil painting of highland scenery and on the left foreground of the scene there is a studio prop resembling a rocky outcrop, on which the subject rests his right elbow. Alfonso has a full, dark beard and moustache and is wearing a beret hat adorned with a silk tassel. He is dressed in walking or hiking attire consisting of a jacket with a Persian lamb collar, cuffs and hem and decorated with embroidery along the length of the sleeves and around the button loops. Alfonso wears four medals on his left breast. He is also wearing mid-coloured trousers. He is leaning his left hand on the hilt of his sword.

Alfonso was the second son of Infante Juan of Spain, Count of Montizón and Archduchess Maria Beatrix of Austria-Este. In 1871 he married Infanta Maria das Neves of Portugal and the couple had an only son who died within a few hours of his birth. The couple did not have any further children.
