Carte-de-visite head and shoulders photograph of Prince Leopold of Anhalt-Dessau, in a vignette format. The subject is shown in three quarter view, facing towards the left of the image with his head turned towards the viewer. His blonde hair is short and wavy and he is clean-shaven. He is wearing a white shirt with a turn down collar, a black silk bow tie and a dark coloured frock coat.
Leopold was the first child of Hereditary Prince Frederick of Anhalt-Dessau-Köthen and his wife Princess Antoinette of Saxe-Altenburg. In 1884 he married Princess Elisabeth of Hesse-Kassel and the couple had one daughter. In 1886, less than one year after the birth of his daughter, Leopold died unexpectedly. As he had no sons, he was succeeded as Hereditary Prince by his younger brother Frederick, who became Duke Frederick II of Anhalt.Provenance
