Carte-de-visite three quarter length photograph of Princess Marie of Saxe Altenburg (Princess Albert of Prussia). The subject is shown in three quarter view, facing towards the left of the image. She is standing with both hands resting on top of the back of a carved wooden chair. Her hair is arranged in a chignon and decorated with a ribbon. She is wearing a pale coloured dress with a high neck, trimmed with tiers of gathered ribbon and lace. She is wearing drop earrings, a brooch at her neck and a ring on the third finger of her right hand.
Marie was the only surviving child of Ernst I, Duke of Saxe-Altenburg and his wife Princess Agnes of Anhalt-Dessau. Her younger brother Georg died as an infant.
In 1873 Marie married Prince Albert of Prussia and the couple had three sons.Provenance
