Prince Alfred is leaning on the balustrade on the opposite side to the Duke of Saxe-Altenburg, facing three-quarters left. His right arm is resting on the balustrade and he holds a large cane in his right hand. His left elbow is resting on the balustrade and his head is supported by his left hand. He is wearing a top hat. Prince Albert is sitting on the balustrade and faces the viewer. He is resting his hands on top of a walking stick, left hand over right. In his right hand he is holding a top hat.
