Photograph of a young boy wearing a tar hat and leaning back against a shelf on which also rests a small book. He has his right hand tucked into his trouser top and faces the viewer. The photographer O.G. Rejlander was particularly admired by Prince Albert who had at least 15 of his prints placed in his albums. This photograph was the first by Rejlander to be acquired by Prince Albert. It was shown at the second exhibition of the Photographic Society, which the Prince visited on 11 January 1855.
