Photograph of Princess Alix of Hesse, fourth daughter of Prince and Princess Louis of Hesse, taken during her stay in England with her family during the summer of 1875. Princess Alix is said to have had beautiful colouring and large deep blue eyes: she was known as 'Sunny' to her family. Her grandmother, Queen Victoria, attempted a sketch of 'dear beautiful amusing little Alix' on May 9, but she 'sat very badly'. Alix married Tsar Nicholas II of Russia in November 1894, having changed her name to Alexandra Feodorovna.
