Photograph of a decorative archway erected across the road at Kandy. The arch is roughtly shaped like the facade of a church with two flanking spires. Decorated with leaves, topped with crowns and flags. Sri Lankans line roads, four soldiers stand across road. By his own wish, the Prince of Wales made a tour of India from 8 November 1875 until 13 March 1876. During his stay he received and visited many Indian princes and officials, held receptions and levées and went on hunting and sightseeing expeditions. As a result of the visit, six photographic albums were compiled of portraits, groups and views. Some of the photographs were commercial prints already available; others were specially taken to commemorate the tour.
