Edfu is the site of an important temple complex to the falcon-headed god Horus, constructed between 237 and 51 BC. This view, made from within the Great Court of the temple, shows Bedford's small portable tent in the shade of the colonnade. Here the photographer would have to prepare his plates and work on them after exposing them in the camera. The photograph is signed, captioned and dated in the negative, 'F Bedford Edfou'. The number in the Day & Son series is 24.
