Photograph of the Portal of the Hospital de Santa Cruz in Toledo, Spain. The main doorway stands behind iron railings. The Set into the archway above the door, the tympanum shows a relief of the 'Invention of the Cross' with the founder shown kneeling in front of a cross supported by Saint Helena.
The Hospital of Santa Cruz was built in 1499 and was commissioned by Cardinal Pedro Gonzalez de Mendoza (1428-95) and now serves as a museum. The building's style represents the transition from florid Gothic to Renaissance.Provenance
