Photograph of a view taken on the Roman Bridge of Alcántara. The bridge is framed by a central castellated archway spanning the upper section. In the background, viewed through the arch, stands a chapel on a hill opposite. A horse and cart stand on the bridge in the distance at the far end of the bridge.
'El Puente de Alcántara' - 'The Bridge of the Bridge' was built by the Roman Emperor Trajan in Alcántara in AD 105, and comprises 6 arches. The two central arches span 110ft, and are 210ft high. The bridge is built of large granite stones.Provenance
