Photograph of the detail of a rock face with snow and ice visible on the rocks. Captain Edward Inglefield was a talented photographer and in 1854, produced this startling, abstract composition of rocks by filling the frame of the camera. It is the most photographic of his compositions, as he moves away from the existing picturesque aesthetic of the time into a vision of the landscape that emerged entirely from the camera.
