Photograph of Sevastopol before the final bombardment during the Siege of Sevastopol. In the foreground there are fields with a number of low stone walls. Behind is the Russian barracks and the harbour. There are a number of ships to the right of the harbour. The photograph has been masked at the skyline, with crack marks below where the original negative was used. The Siege of Sevastopol lasted eleven months, with the allied British, French and Turkish forces eventually capturing the city on the 8th September 1855.
