Photograph of two sergeants of the 8th Hussars having a drink. They stand facing each other with the man to the right pouring a drink into his companion's glass. They are both wearing military uniform and carry riding crops. There is open ground behind them and a small dog lying at their feet. This photograph, printed by Jabez Hughes in 1883, is a carbon print pasted over the original photograph.
This is one of a series of photographs of soldiers who served in the Crimean War in an album compiled by Queen Victoria. The album also includes photographs commissioned by The Queen of wounded veterans she met at Buckingham Palace and Chatham Military Hospital.Provenance
