Located near Sligachan, Sgurr nan Gillean can be found in the Cuillin range of mountains or munro's on the Isle of Skye. The height is 966m. The photograph originally formed one half of a stereoscopic photograph that gave a 3 dimensional view when viewed through a stereoscope. The inclusion of the boulder and figure in the foreground of the photograph adds depth to the photograph In other versions of this view, Wilson has titled the photograph 'Scuir na Gillean from the East, Skye'. Wilson probably took this view during his tour of the western isles of Scotland in 1860 or 1861.
