Photograph of the Honourable Walter Vivian, uncle of Violet Vivian, pipe in mouth, at Cestyll in Anglesey. He was manager of Dinorwig Quarry in Llanberis and was related to the Duff Assheton-Smith family who owned the quarry. He never married and left most of his estate to Violet. Cestyll was acquired for the Honourable Violet Vivian, initially as a holiday home and later a permanent residence with extensive gardens. She and her twin sister (later married to Lord Haig) were Maids of Honour to Queen Alexandra and long-time friends with Princess Victoria.
