Sèvres soft paste porcelain pair of vases and covers. Bleu nouveau ground, bell-shape covers with acanthus foliage, short fluted necks separated from oval bodies by drum-like sections mounted at either end with a lion mask and pelt; a pair of grisaille panels on each depicting cupids, ribbed lower section with splayed feet mounted on canted stepped square bases.
Provenance
Recorded in 1826 in the Crimson Drawing Room, Principal Floor, Carlton House: ‘No.1 A pair of Seve Porcelain Vases and Covers of blue ground, the body alternately raised & fluted with gold husks, Lion mask and paw handles, the tops white and gold leaves reversed, surmounted by flattened balls; height 16 Inches’.
