Sèvres soft paste porcelain pair of vases Bleu nouveau ground and gilded decoration, egg shape vase with folding tongue-like handles overlaid with fern and bead decoration terminating in laurel husks, circular bell shape foot on square base. Oval reserves with bead-and-reel and rope moulding depicting polychrome quayside scenes to the front and intertwined wreaths on the reverse.
Provenance
Recorded in 1826 in His Majesty’s Closet, Carlton House: ‘No.38. A pair of blue Seve Etruscan shaped Vases, with white and gold leaf handles and embossed Laurel sprigs over Compartments of marine subjects painted after Vernet, – the backs painted in wreaths of flowers; ormolu laurel wreath base, on square ormolu plinths. 17 In high’.
