A life-size bronze bust of the Roman Emperor wearing armour with confronted gilt griffons flanking a lyre on the breastplate. The gilt bronze laurel wreath on the head and gilt bronze draperies separately cast and applied.
Provenance
Together with a bronze of Emperor Vespasian (RCIN 2138), this bust was bought by Lord Yarmouth in Paris and received form Chatham Tender on 9 January 1818 (Jutsham Receipts II 25/28); it was subsequently placed in Carlton House. Sent to Windsor Castle on 2nd December 1828.
