From 1842 to 1855, Lady Canning served as a Lady of the Bedchamber to Queen Victoria. She moved to Calcutta in 1856 upon her husband's appointment Governor-General of India.
The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. A print from this negative exists in the Collection, RCIN 2906650.Provenance
