Glass plate negative of John Elder, the keeper of the Royal Kennels, with Bout, described as Queen Victoria's 'Cashmere dog'.
John Elder was employed at the Royal Kennels from 1852 to c. 1863. He died in 1891. Bout was given by Lord Hardinge in 1847 and died in June 1856.
The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. A print from this negative (RCIN 2105053) can be found in an album belonging to Queen Victoria.Provenance
