Glass plate negative of John Elder, the keeper of the Royal Kennels, with Nero, described as Queen Victoria's 'Blood hound'.
John Elder was employed at the Royal Kennels from 1852 to c. 1863. He died in 1891. Nero was bought in 1849 and died on 20 January 1860.
The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. A print from this negative (RCIN 2105116) can be found in an album belonging to Queen Victoria.Provenance
