A gilt bronze hinged casket ornately decorated with intricate Renaissance-style ornaments and mounted with Sèvres porcelain plaques; the principal plaques depict the styles of dress of ladies in Europe, Asia, Africa, America and Oceania.
Provenance
Shown at the annual exhibition of the products of the Sèvres manufactory in May 1842 and purchased by King Louis-Philippe on 18 August 1843 for 6,550 francs as a gift for Queen Victoria. Presented to Queen Victoria by King Louis Philippe of France at Chateau d'Eu September 5th 1843.
