A gold half hunter watch decorated with enamel and set with diamonds. The outer case on the dial side is decorated with two concentric circles; the inner circle has the 12 hours represented in Roman numerals painted in white on blue enamel and the outer circle is enamelled in floral designs with pierced gold and diamond hands in the form of flowers with petals. On the reverse is an enamel portrait of Mahendra Singh, Maharaja of Patiala wearing the Grand Cross of the Star of India, which he was awarded in 1870. The portrait is inlaid with diamonds and is based on a photograph by Bourne & Shepherd taken c.1870.
Provenance
Presented to King Edward VII, when Prince of Wales, during his tour of India in 1875-76 by Mahendra Singh, Maharaja of Patiala.
