A dagger (khanjar); double-edged re-curved blade, thickened at tip. The hilt is of white nephrite jade with floral design in gold set with diamonds, rubies, and emeralds. The wooden scabbard is covered in crimson velvet with jade mounts decorated en suite with the hilt. The gemstones are inset into the jade using strips of highly refined gold, kundan, to secure the stones using pressure rather than heat.
Provenance
Presented to King Edward VII, when Prince of Wales, during his tour of India in 1875-76.
