Georg Franz Hoffmann was a German botanist specialising in lichens. This book is his field guide to German flora, first printed in 1791. Other editions were printed in 1795, 1800 and 1804. Hoffmann would go on to serve as director of the botanic garden at the University of Göttingen from 1792 until travelling to Moscow to take up a similar post at the university there in 1804.
