George IV’s interest in military uniform was well known. This book of illustrations of French uniform was a gift from Louis-Philippe, son of Philippe ‘Egalité’, duc d’Orleans, who had been executed in 1793. Louis-Philippe lived in exile under Napoleon but returned to France after the Battle of Waterloo, and was crowned as King of the French in 1830.
